A Beautiful, Charming Movie that Is Ever-Relevant
I’m not giving away ANY of this magnificent plot, except that it spans two continents.

Gigi: a Most Elegant, Sweet Film

In Elegant Film, Elegant Movies, Elegant Survival Film Recommendation, Gigi on 01/05/2011 at 10:13 pm
Gigi, a lovely movie
starring Leslie Caron, Louis Jourdan, Maurice Chevalier,  Hermione Gingold,  Isabelle Jeans,  and Jacques Bergerac
Story by Colette
Music by Lerner and Loew
Andre Previn Orchestra
Directed by Vincente Minelli
The DVD set has a documentary about the making of Gigi, a bonus short film and a Tom & Jerry cartoon. “The Million Dollar Nickel” will make most Americans nostalgic for the good old days when communism was still recognised as an evil to be thwarted.
Hollywood actors and actresses and actors from Europe and South America exhort the public to use the 5-cent stamp to write the truth about the United States in letters abroad to their friends and family in other countries, in an effort to counteract communist propaganda and expose it as a calumnious pack of lies. The speakers include Leslie Caron, Ricardo Montalban, Pier Angeli and Zsa Zsa Gabor.
Gigi is a gorgeous movie with a happy ending.

The Razor’s Edge, by W. Somerset Maugham

In Elegant Film, Elegant Movies, Gene Tierney Film, Mystical Movies, Path to Salvation, Searching Movies, The Razor's Edge, Tyrone Power Film, W. Somerset Maugham on 23/04/2011 at 8:17 am

The Razor’s Edge is a book by British author W. Somerset Maugham, which was published in 1944. Its epigraph reads, “The sharp edge of a razor is difficult to pass over; thus the wise say the path to Salvation is hard.” taken from verse in the Katha-Upanishad.

The Razor’s Edge tells the story of an American pilot traumatized by his experiences in World War I, who sets off in search of some transcendent meaning in his life. The novel is based upon the life of Guy Hague, an American mining engineer, whom Maugham met during his time in the United States and later on in Paris.

A brilliant, beautiful movie was made in 1946 by Darryl F. Zanuck from Somerset Maugham’s searching, realistic yet mystical book. The Razor’s Edge film stars Tyrone Power, Gene Tierney, Clifton Webb, Ann Baxter and John Payne. Without giving away plot, I recommend this film highly as an Elegant Survival classic.

Rita Hayworth, Fred Astaire, Adolphe Menjou and Xavier Cugat star in the charming 1942 romantic comedy, You Were Never Lovelier

The dancing in this movie by Rita Hayworth and Fred Astaire will knock your socks off, and the South American music by Xavier Cugat is enchanting. This classic film is available at Amazon.com.
