“Xeriscaping” was coined by the Denver Water department in 1981, to name their method of conserving water in outdoor beautification efforts.
Many people in the broadcasting and gardening industries mispronounce this neologism as “zeroscaping.”
In Greek, “xeri” means “dry.”
