Where have all the sweet sounds gone?
Yesterday’s women cultivated elegant voices that resembled flutes. Today’s women sometimes sound like trombones filled with cottage cheese, as though they have confused gravitas with gravel.

Newscasters are doing it too. Advertising voice-overs use the pop-culture female growl. Any time that a woman or girl is interviewed on the news, we hear the gravel-voiced, guttural grunting. It is now a chore listening to most American women speak. Who started this raunchy way of talking? Do they all strive to sound like the Kardashians?
