Cats Beautify Landscape and Keep It Vermin-Free

This tiny mother cat appeared out of nowhere, coming to sit on our verandah. She is, like all feral cats, afraid of people and has a very strong survival instinct. We didn’t know she was fully-grown and had kittens until the caretaker asked if we had seen them. Eventually, “Fifi” brought her kittens to eat and drink here, after training them to survive on mice and lizards. The food is set upon a chair to protect it and the water dispenser from ants, which are still in season. Fifi looks almost exactly like a cat that I had to leave behind long ago. And our indoor cat chose us in the same way, coming to visit now and then and apparently not having an owner. She is black and looks exactly like the other one of the two beloved cats I had to leave behind long ago. So now we “have” a couple cats that matches my old pair. Those two cats, who are dead now despite having been left in good hands,  seem to have been reincarnated!

Featuring a photo of our house-cat, here is a piece I wrote in 2011 called Cats, the Elegant House-Pets:

Cats are cheap to keep, and will rid your home of dangerous, unhealthy vermin.
They are also calm and beautiful to look at, while being good companions.
Domestic felines are good company for humans, but once they are living inside one’s home,
mice will avoid your place like the plague that vermin are famous for spreading.
Cats are elegant and clean–the perfect house-pets!

A twenty-pound bag of Purina Cat food costs around $15.00 at Sam’s Club, and will feed one cat for six months or more.

Cat litter may be bought in bulk, packaged in reusable plastic storage-buckets.

Cats naturally repel mice from your home. They are cleanliness-loving creatures who like to clean up after themselves, and resist things that are dirty, unlike dogs.

Cats can be left alone in your dwelling for days at a time, provided with dry food and water dispensers (they emit the food or water gradually from a plastic storage bin), and a couple of cat-boxes. Technological geniuses have developed litter-boxes that are self-cleaning.

Cats will sleep most of the time while you aren’t home, and will amuse themselves for a few minutes a day to get their exercise.
